Depressing the control rod opens the integral valve in the unit and allows the fluid to transfer between fluid chambers.
With a compressive load applied, the return spring force is overcome and the unit is compressed. The valve is closed by release of the control rod. The closed valve "locks" fluid in the fluid chambers and prevents further compression of the unit.
To return the unit to its extended position, depress the control rod to open the valve and remove the compressive load previously applied to the unit. The return spring force will automatically reset the unit to its fully extended position.
Release of the control rod at any position during compression or extension of the unit will result in locking the unit at that position.
The Hydrolok uses a hydraulic fluid which allows the unit to positively lock in any position to its full hydraulic rated load. The unit incorporates a mechanical spring which ensures consistent output force, regardless of a temperature changes and/or age of unit. A redundant fluid reservoir replenishes the small amount of fluid used to lubricate the sliding members, thereby assuring the longest service life in the industry.
The Hydrolok is equipped with a special override features which permits the unit to be returned to its fully extended position without actuation of the control rod. This override is affected anytime a large tension load is applied to the lock.
