High Speed Trains

A Hydro-Aire Braking System is being tested on the futuristic Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) Train in Japan. The Maglev train has traveled at speeds up to 550 kph (342 mph) while levitating about 4 inches above the track. The Hydro-Aire Braking System provides emergency braking for the Maglev train in the event of a failure of the magnetic levitation system.

The Hydro-Aire Braking system uses unique advanced technologies to solve the unique problems associated with the high magnetic field surrounding the system components.

Some of the system highlights are:

  • Control system derived from the successful Mark V Brake-by-Wire system (used on many regional and business aircraft flying today)

  • Optical wheel speed transducers

  • Miniature high speed switching solenoid valves

  • Brake torque energy balancing technology

  • Integrated brake control, antiskid and autobrake control technology
