Phase Shifters: Discriminators & Translators
Discriminators
Olektron
Frequency discriminators are utilized to convert an input signal
frequency to a DC voltage that is proportional to the input frequency.
Applications are: frequency measurement, FM demodulation and automatic
frequency control (AFC) We offer two different design types.
The first
is formed utilizing two L-C resonant circuits tuned to staggered
frequencies The skirts of these filters form the frequency selective
element which, when followed by amplitude detection, provides a varying
signal level with input frequency. We also offer design delay line
discriminators. These use the principal of delay time in transmission
lines to provide detection. A phase sensitive detector is used to
provide the conversion from RF to DC voltage signals. Both models of
discriminators incorporate internal limiting IF amplifiers, and video
amplifiers. This approach removes small variations in the input signal
level and provides convenient +/- 2.5 volt (nominal) output voltage
swing. (A large variety of custom and standard designs are available.)
Our
mixer products operate up to 3 GHz with both narrow and wideband
performance. They are available with unbalanced or dual IF outputs and
LO drives from 3 to +23 dBm. Starved LO models are also available.
Custom packaging, including commercial SMT, is optional.
