VME Format Power Solutions

The VME format has its origin in the industrial world. It is one of the open-system technologies that have been adopted by many aerospace and defense integrators as the backbone architecture for their future systems. The advantage of using VME architecture is that it allows our customer to focus on those elements of the system that require customization while procuring the rest from commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) providers. The Crane Aerospace & Electronics culture is to support our key customers by aiding in the design of the desired VME format power supply and by lessening the overall development cost. This is accomplished by using our building block approach. Where there are sufficient quantities, we are also able to work with our key customers to integrate the power elsewhere into the enclosure. This is because the card slot real estate is not always available.

The Crane Aerospace & Electronics VME approach employs COTS modular building blocks that allow us to offer the maximum degree of flexibility as demonstrated by the multiple versions created to date. These power supplies can be customized to meet the unique requirements that many of our key customers require, depending on the application. Currently our models operate from a 28 VDC source, however, units that use either 115 VAC or 270 VDC input power are in the planning stages.
