About Us
      P.L. Porter

PL PorterGeneral

P.L. Porter is the global leader in position control devices and adjusting technology for aircraft seating and other aircraft cabin applications. Other industries, including office furniture, bus, rail, and home health equipment, now specify P.L. Porter position control devices. P.L. Porter products provide our customers with Cabin Solutions.

P.L. Porter provides a full range of services from application engineering through testing to final design and after-market support. Using a combination of customer-focused management techniques, team-oriented production, and total quality management, P.L. Porter is able to deliver cost-effective solutions which meet, and often exceed, our customers' expectations.

P.L. Porter pioneered the Hydrolok®, the first hydraulic aircraft seat recline device, in the 1940's. Since then, Porter has continued to provide innovative solutions with new position control technologies, including the Mechlok®, a linear mechanical actuator, and various mechanical and hydraulic controls. Our latest developments include iMotion®, a sophisticated computer controlled electronic seat actuation and comfort control systems for first and business class seating.

Since the company's beginning in 1947, P.L. Porter has endorsed a single premise…"Quality with Pride." The pursuit of this principle has driven company growth, as we provide innovate solutions to our customers' design challenges.

Company Locations

P.L. Porter is located in Burbank California. We have offices in North America, Europe, and Asia to provide local customer support.

Operational Excellence

The Operational Excellence program at Crane Co. is designed to implement Lean principles through all business units. It is built on the foundation of our Six-Sigma program, but it extends beyond Six-Sigma into a full Lean initiative. The goal is simple: Focus on adding value to our customers by eliminating non-value-added activities and achieving world class quality.

Markets Served

Our markets, though varied, all contain one common thread - a need for superior mechanical, hydraulic, and electric precision positioning devices.

Aircraft

Everyone who travels by air uses PLP products. We created the original hydraulic seat back recliner, known as the Hydrolok. Nearly every airline worldwide specifies PLP Hydroloks and controls when ordering seats. Our aircraft product line ranges from simple mechanical controls to sophisticated computer controlled electric actuators known as the Electronic Comfort Control System. From cargo doors to overhead storage bins, from the cockpit to crew rest modules, PLP mechanical and hydraulic locks help keep the aircraft flying.

Office Equipment

PLP products provide recline, seat tilt, fore and aft tracking, arm rest adjustment, and ergonomic design adjustment for executive and task chairs; plus adjustable devices for work surfaces, computer keyboards and table heights.

Medical/Sports

PLP products are ideal for wheelchairs where recline and tilt-in-space adjustments are required, as well as, dental chairs and orthopedic/chiropractic/therapy tables needing many adjustable surfaces. Treadmills, weight machines, rowers, steppers, can all use PLP mechanical locks to change the setup to accommodate a wide variety of people and workout routines.

Industrial

PLP products can be used on machine and process applications where adjustments are required for set-up, changeovers and maintenance procedures.
